Assault and Battery

Assault and battery are intentional torts.  The requirements for an intentional torts are an act, intent and causation.  A battery is an intentional touching of a plaintiff's person that is offensive to an average person.  An assault is the defendant putting the plaintiff into a reasonable apprehension of harm and the injured party knowing that they are in a reasonable apprehension of harm.
